Did this answer your question?

Do I need to submit a GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test)?

Each programme has its own GRE/GMAT requirements which are listed in the programme details online. However we have also listed programmes below and grouped them according to those requirements (each one links to the programme details page for more information).

If a test is required then we must receive scores before your application will be considered. If it is just recommended then your application will be considered even if you have not submitted a score, but please note that once a decision is made it will not be reconsidered for the same programme, even if you later provide scores.

For further information about the GRE and GMAT tests, please see www.ets.org/gre or www.gmac.com. You can also find useful information here.

To submit your scores from ETS, please give the LSE institution code which is 0972. For GMAT scores the code your require is HMT-86-XX (dependent on programme). If you are made an offer of admission you will be required to provide an official copy of your score report from the ETS (for the GRE) or the GMAC (for the GMAT).

If you are taking the GRE you will need to do the GRE General Test. We will need percentile scores and raw scores for all sections of the GRE or GMAT to consider your application. Incomplete sections or partial scores are not sufficient to consider your application.

Please note, certain programmes have GRE/GMAT exemptions, so it is very important that you consult individual programme entry requirements prior to applying.

Applicants for the following programmes are either recommended to take a test but not required (For example some programmes do not require GRE or GMAT from UK undergraduates but still recommend it, particularly if quantitative skills are not demonstrated by their degree); or do not explicitly recommend to take the tests but test scores will be considered if submitted, and can strengthen the application.

MSc Accounting and Finance GMAT test is recommended for applicants with a UK undergraduate degree (particularly those whose quantitative skills are not demonstrated by their undergraduate studies) but it is not a requirement.

MSc Development Studies - Not required, but will be considered if submitted.

MSc Finance - Full time. Graduates with UK degrees without clear evidence of quantitative skills are advised to take a GMAT test but it is not required.

Executive MSc Finance - Part time. Submission of GRE or GMAT test results is an advantage but not a requirement.

MSc Finance and Private Equity - Graduates with UK degrees are advised to take a GMAT test but it is not required.

MSc Global Media and Communications Not required, but will be considered if submitted.

MSc Human Resource and Organisations Submitting a GRE/GMAT score is not required but a strong result from either of these tets may benefit applicants.

Executive Global Master's in Management A GRE or GMAT is recommended to those whose do not meet our requirements with their prior UK degree.

Global Master's in Management Graduates with UK degrees can submit GRE or GMAT scores but they are not required.

MSc Local Economic Development No requirement, but a good GRE/GMAT will be a strong asset.

MSc Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation Not required, but will be considered if submitted.

MSc Operations Research & Analytics Not required but recommended.

MSc Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship - Not required, but will be considered if submitted.

MSc Risk and Finance GMAT recommended for all applicants but not required if you have aUK undergraduate degree.

MRes/PhD International Development GRE or GMAT - highly recommended but not required.

MPhil/PhD Social Research Methods Not required, but will be considered if submitted.

MPA programmes Not required, but will be considered if submitted.

The following three programmes may waive the test requirement if you have a valid reason for not being able to take the test: MSc Accounting and Finance, MSc Finance and Economics (including research track), and MSc Risk and Finance. Please complete the online request form explaining your reasons for the request. Note that waivers are not guaranteed, and if granted offers conditional on taking either test may be made. It is in your interest to provide test results with your application.
